FIELD: systems for determining surface quality. SUBSTANCE: method is realized due to using monochromatic sounding light beam. Method comprises steps of generating monochromatic sounding light beam; directing such light beam onto surface of object for receiving mirror and diffused components of light irradiation reflected from surface of object; converting mirror and diffused components reflected from object surface to photocurrents due to supplying said components for subsequent processing into light irradiation-photocurrent converter connected with unit for processing information; before directing sounding light beam onto surface of object extracting from said beam part of irradiation for forming reference light beam; forming paired pulses of the same duration with use of reference beam and diffused component reflected from object surface and also from reference beam and mirror component reflected from object surface; supplying received pulses in pairs alternatively and successively to converter of light irradiation to photocurrent; and determining quality of object surface according to given formula. Apparatus for determining quality of object surface includes source of monochromatic sounding light beam, concave mirror with inlet opening, photodetector for registering light irradiation connected with unit for processing information. Apparatus also includes obturator in the form of disc with window, focusing system, first, second, third mirrors and light splitter. Concave mirror is in the form of paraboloid of revolution having outlet opening. Disc of obturator at side of photodetector has mirror zone on end surface and pair of mirror members.
