FIELD: seismic investigations; searching for hydrocarbon deposits in land and water areas. SUBSTANCE: method includes recording of Earth noise followed by its analysis. Standard waveform of information signal is determined on known hydrocarbon deposit. Used as information signal is energy spectrum being calculated. Same information signal is determined at proposed deposit, Recorded time range is divided into digital sections. Each digital section is analyzed for standard waveform of information signal and also for information signal distortions of man-caused nature. Digital sections having no information signals of standard waveforms are excluded from further analyses along with those including mentioned distortions. Remaining digital sections are analyzed and decision is taken on presence or absence of hydrocarbon deposits. EFFECT: enhanced precision and reduced time requirement. 6 cl, 4 dwg
