FIELD: drinking water purification. SUBSTANCE: The invention relates to the water purification technology, in particular, to compositions of the filtering mediums and may be used for purification (sanitation) of the drinking water from the water-pipe and limnetic sources using household filters. The filtering medium, that includes activated charcoal, additionally contains a palletized mixture of calcium and magnesium carbonates coated with the porous film made of magnesium, calcium and ferric oxides. The total content of calcium and magnesium carbonates is no less than 95 mass % , the total content of magnesia and calcium oxides is not less than 2 mass %, and the content of ferric oxide FeO is 2-3 mass % . At that the given components of the filtering medium are located layer by layer, and their composition is (in vol. %): charcoal - 50-80, a palletized mixture - 20-50.
