FOREIGN LANGUAGE TEACHING METHOD Russian patent published in 2003 - IPC

FIELD: technical facilities for teaching of foreign language. SUBSTANCE: method involves visual and sound displaying of at least one film with participation of at least two characters; showing each film at least once without participation in dialogue between film characters of individual learning foreign language, with following showing of film at least once with participation in said dialogue of said individual; forming and remembering in memory unit two groups of adequate signals for each dialogue participant, each signal in above groups of adequate signals being formed as time sequence of sub-signals, each corresponding to individual statement of respective dialogue participant; before each showing of each film without participation in said dialogue of said individual, choosing for each character at least one signal from respective two groups of adequate signals; before each showing of each film with participation in said dialogue of said individual, choosing character of respective film, on behalf of whom said individual is supposed to participate in dialogue; during watching of film, simultaneously with displaying of visual and sound background film components, reading and reproducing in synchronism with visual and sound background film components of sound information signals in foreign language, said signals corresponding to each dialogue participant in film, except for participant preliminarily chosen by said individual. After reading, each subsequent sub-signal or group of timed sub-signals of above two groups of adequate signals corresponding to chosen dialogue participant is reproduced in "still frame" mode of visual part of film preceding time of reproduction of given sub-signal or group of sub-signals for predetermined time interval. Individual speech signal converted into electric signal is recognized and compared to sub-signal recorded in memory unit and being text equivalent of respective sound sub-signal in foreign language, with final time point converted into electric signal being fixed. Beginning from said point and up to next switching of "still frame" mode, visual and sound information of film is reproduced at constant speed corresponding to speed characteristic of film.
