FIELD: chemical industry for production of chlorates used as defoliants. SUBSTANCE: the invention presents a defoliant production method, that may be used in chemical industry for production of chlorates used as defoliants. . The method of production of defoliants provides for chlorination of the feed stock containing a metal hydrooxides with a sodium salt and implementation of reaction of interaction of reactants before formation of a chlorate of a metal contained in hydrooxides of the feed stock, and at that the aluminum production slag containing aluminum in different extent of hydration is used as the feed stock containing hydroxides of the metal and sodium chloride is used as sodium salt. At that chlorination process is conducted with addition of hydrochloric acid up to achieving pH=5÷6. EFFECT: the invention allows to produce much cheaper defoliant and to utilize the aluminum production waste products. 4 cl, 1 dwg
