FIELD: aluminium production and manufacture of building materials. SUBSTANCE: fine- grain slag made up of 5-45% K and Na chlorides, 12-25% Al metal, 20- 40% alumina, and 10-20% silica and/or dust fraction of slag obtained after postseparation of aluminium from slag containing 45-60, 5-12, 10-25, and 5-15%, respectively, are recommended. Slag is mixed with hydrochloric acid, agitated for some time, and basic aluminium chloride is then separated from nonreacted residue of slag. Salt solution thus obtained is used for restoring cationic filters and as binder or additive when manufacturing building materials, and also as coagulant to treat water, for example, to remove heavy metal salts. Nonreacted residue of slag finds use in manufacturing building materials as well, especially in highway engineering. EFFECT: increased versatility in utilizing slag. 1 tbl
