FIELD: treatment of surfaces of articles made from magnesium or magnesium alloys for application of coats. SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes treatment of article by special fluid containing 1000 to 20000 million fractions of ions of alkali metal, 1000 to 50000 million fractions of ions of condensed phosphate, 100 to 20000 million fractions of borate ions at pH equal to 8. Special fluid contains additionally 10 to 2000 million fractions of surfactant, 10 to 2000 million fractions of chelating agent and 10 to 2000 million fractions of defoaming agent. After treatment, article is withdrawn from fluid, washed with water, dried and coated with one layer of powder-like coat.
