FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of ignition of fuel mixture in internal combustion engines with heated ignition elements. According to invention, fuel mixture charge is prepared for ignition before intake, said charge is fed into intake chamber being part of working chamber, and shielding of fuel mixture charge prepared for ignition by heated ignition element is stopped after completion of charge intake. Engine for implementing said method contains housing, working chamber, working member with shield periodically shifted over surface of working chamber, and heated igniting element installed in wall of working chamber with possibility of shielding heated igniting element in process of intake of fuel mixture until filling of intake chamber is completed. According to invention, shield is made for opening access of fuel mixture to heated ignition element after completion of intake of fuel mixture at movement of working member for executing working stroke. Shield can be made in form of shutter in rotary engine or in form of side wall of piston or its boss on piston crown in piston engine. EFFECT: increased efficiency of engine owing to improved stability of ignition moment. 5 cl, 6 dwg
