FIELD: break tests of materials. SUBSTANCE: method testing material for breaking under conditions of compoundstress dynamic loading consists in action on specimen of tested material by shock wave created by contact blast of explosive applied in the form of layer to surface of specimen and initiated from one side of charge, in determination of distance along initiation line to point of nucleation of break-away crack and in computed determination of pressure in shock wave in point of nucleation of break- away crack after loading. This pressure is used to make judgment on breaking strength of material. Specimen of axially symmetric shape is subjected to loading, explosive charge is put on its side surface and is initiated in parallel with base of specimen. After loading specimen is cut along axis and pattern of break-away destruction is analyzed with determination of distance to point of nucleation of crack from axis of specimen. Tested specimen can have cylindrical form, charge can be positioned in the form of explosive layer which thickness grows along length of specimen, specimen can also be of conical shape.
