FIELD: measurement technology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to measurements. Present method comprises short-term loading of solid or liquid sample with an impact pulse until fracturing or spalling therein. Loading of solid or liquid sample is carried out with ultra-short impact pulse with duration of about 10-10 s which is created by single pulse femtosecond laser radiation (less than 10-12 s) duration to achieve rate of deformation of sample at level of 109÷1010 s-1, and evaluation of dynamic tensile strength of metals in condensed state is performed by continuous recording of process of movement of surface of sample in picosecond range with time resolution 10-12 s using a diagnostic frequency-modulated pulse.
EFFECT: high reliability of determining dynamic tensile strength of sample in a solid or liquid state during tests owing to formation of an ultrashort picosecond pulse load with femtosecond laser for about 10-13÷10-12 s.
