FIELD: technology evaluating quality of liquid lubricants, specifically, determination of their durability. SUBSTANCE: technique determining durability of lubricating oils includes centrifugation of specimen of scavenger oil with subsequent photometric measurement. Specimen of scavenger oil is divided into three parts: first part of oil specimen is utilized to establish viscosity, second part of specimen is subjected to centrifugation with subsequent photometric measurement and determination of absorption factor of luminous flux by centrifuged part, third part of oil specimen is subjected to test for thermal oxidation stability in the course of less than two hours at temperature corresponding to basic vehicle of lubricating oil. Then absorption factor of luminous flux and viscosity of oxidized specimen are found. Durability of lubricating oil is established from expression Пd = (Ko.s-Ka.f0/η, where Пd is durability factor of lubricating oil; Ko.s is absorption factor of luminous flux of specimen of oxidized oil; Ka.f is absorption factor of luminous flux of specimen of scavenger oil after centrifugation; η0 and η are correspondingly viscosity of oxidized and initial specimens of scavenger oil.
