FIELD: metallurgy; production of slabs and round ingots from magnesium and magnesium-lithium alloys. SUBSTANCE: furnace has low- frequency inductor and crucible mounted inside inductor and isolated from the latter by heat insulation, both being enclosed by steel frame; upper part of crucible may be heat-insulated by magnesite brick and remaining part of crucible, by multilayer refractory stuffing mass, each layer of the latter incorporating mixture of particles of magnesite and/or periclase of different fractions, mass percent: first layer of particles whose fraction is not over 0.8 mm, 25-35; second layer of particles whose fraction is 0.8 to 2.5 mm, 25-35; third layer of particles whose fraction is minimum 2.5 mm, 20-30; sodium fluosilicate or potassium fluosilicate, 1 3; sodium liquid glass, the rest.
