FIELD: measurement technology, measurement of level of liquids, predominantly, in tanks. SUBSTANCE: procedure includes formation and generation of electric pulse of specified duration. Then formed electric pulse is converted to ultrasonic vibrations in acoustic line by deformation of acoustic line with formation of alternating magnetic flux over entire length of winding of excitation coil. Magnetic flux is formed by supply of formed electric pulse of specified duration into winding of excitation coil, by action of alternating magnetic flux flowing through section of winding of excitation coil on permanent magnetic field and by change of resultant of magnetic field. Ultrasonic vibrations are converted to electric oscillations by deformation of crystal of ferroelectric of piezodetector exposed to ultrasonic vibrations. Time interval of passage of ultrasonic vibrations is measured. Level of liquid is established by known velocity of sound in acoustic line and measured time interval. Time interval between time moment of supply of formed pulse of specified duration into winding of excitation coil and time moment of formation of electric oscillations across piezodetector is assumed to be time interval of passage of ultrasonic vibrations. Magnetostrictive level gauge includes sensitive element with acoustic line made of magnetostrictive material placed into dielectric tube, winding wound on dielectric tube, at least one float with magnetic unit of n permanent magnets ( where n=1, 2,...i ) mounted around insulation sheath for movement along it, electric pulse generator, unit establishing level, piezodetector, former of digital pulse from converted electric oscillations from piezodetector, unit determining time interval between time moment of formation of magnetoelastic effect and time moment of formation of piezoelectric effect. All mentioned components are properly interconnected. EFFECT: improved safety of measurement of level of liquid thanks to possibility of decrease of consumed voltage and capability for remote measurement. 2 cl, 4 dwg
