FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method of determining level of liquid involves generating and transmitting an electric pulse of given duration, converting the electric pulse to ultrasonic vibrations in an acoustic line, generating a constant magnetic field on the level of the measured liquid, converting the ultrasonic vibrations to electric vibrations using converse magnetostrictive effect, amplifying the electric vibrations, generating a count pulse for measuring the time interval for propagation of ultrasonic vibrations, determining the level of the liquid based on the known speed of sound in the acoustic line and the measured time inteval. Amplification of the electric vibrations and generation of the count pulse are carried out on the level of the measured liquid. The float level gauge has an electroconductive acoustic line, a sound pulse generator connected to the first end of the acoustic line, a conducting element connected to the acoustic line, and a processing unit. At least one float is concentrically fitted on the acoustic line such that it can move along it. The float has, arranged concentrically to its opening, a toroidal transformer with one winding and a coupling coil with a permanent magnet lying on the inner side of the coupling coil and polarised along the opening of the float. The level gauge additionally has an alternating current generator, a shaping discriminator, a power transformer, and the float additionally has a rectifier and a shaping amplifier, the input of which is connected to the coupling coil, and the "acoustic line-conducting element" electric circuit is closed through the secondary winding of the power transformer, wherein the alternating current generator, the power transformer, the conducting element, the acoustic line, the toroidal transformer and the rectifier form the supply circuit of the shaping amplifier which, together with the shaping discriminator connected to it, forms the transmission channel of the count pulse generated by the shaping amplifier from the response signal of the coupling coil.
EFFECT: high reliability and accuracy of determining level of liquid.
