FIELD: means for reading and transmitting papillary patterns, mainly fingerprints. SUBSTANCE: proposed system and method are designed for use in computer-based biometric personality-identifying information systems. Reflecting prism of system is made of material whose refractive index ranges between 1.6 and 1.8, its dihedral angles between active and reflecting faces ranging from 20 to 25 deg. and between active and refracting faces, from 91 to 109 deg.; CCD matrix is connected to controller and inclined to optical axis to form dihedral optical angle between CCD matrix and refracting face of prism that ranges between 1 and 19 deg.; light source has light filter passing within range of wavelengths between 0.10 and 2.20 mcm.
