TWO-STAGE BAND-AND-SHOE BRAKE Russian patent published in 2004 - IPC

FIELD: mechanical engineering; band-and-shoe brakes for draw-works. SUBSTANCE: proposed two-stage band-and-shoe brake includes braking pulley, main friction linings and drive, as well as flexible braking band (ring) supported by plate springs on pulley flange provided with venting holes at base and U-shaped recess over perimeter of brake pulley. Located in U-shaped recess at clearance relative to side surfaces of flanges and working surface of pulley are main friction linings which are secured to brake band. Secured to outer surface of brake band are additional friction linings which are engageable with brake band; specific loads on outer and inner friction pairs of friction units are similar due to different coefficients of relative overlapping of friction pairs. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency due to increased total braking torque; increased service life of friction linings. 4 dwg
