FIELD: mining industry. SUBSTANCE: method includes forced pumping of fresh air into the tunnels, outlet of dirty air in ventilation mode by means of creating low atmospheric pressure and outlet of dirty air in smoke removal mode. Dirty air outlet in modes of ventilation and smoke removal is performed separately through different outlet collectors connected to tunnels by means of transversal passages. Continuous air purifying and noise damping is performed. For air outlet on ventilation mode locking valves of air collector are opened and ventilators are enabled. Dirty air outlet in smoke removal mode is performed at lowered atmospheric pressure by means of closing locking valves in air collector and disabling ventilators for balancing air pressure up to atmospheric and stopping fresh air supplying. Then smoke removal valves are opened and self-contained heat-resistant ventilators are enabled. Device for ventilating tunnels has ventilators for forced ventilation in a tunnel by means of creating lowered atmospheric pressure, self- contained smoke removal system with heat-resistant ventilators, noise damping devices, longitudinal air collector with locking valves, and smoke collector with smoke removal valves and purifying devices. Air collector is placed between tunnels along their longitudinal axis and connected to them by transverse smoke passages. Heat-resistant ventilators are mounted near outlet ends of air collector. Purifying devices are mounted in air collector near its ends. Ventilators are also mounted between cleaning and noise damping devices in an air collector.
