FIELD: pulse engineering; nanosecond pulse generators used for exciting metal-atom terminated lasers. SUBSTANCE: driver has thyratron switch 1 of double-grid tube design incorporating provision for controlling its hydrogen pressure and charge concentration in its cathode-grid region, charging device 2, energy storage 3, load resistor 4, (gas-discharge laser tube), first and second pulse generators 6, 11 incorporating provision for checking voltage level across their components, delay circuit 12, sync pulse generator 8, negative voltage supply 10, hydrogen generator heater voltage regulator 14, as well as reference voltage supply 18. Enabling control pulse is supplied to preionization discharge grid only in case feedback signal has arrived both from output of hydrogen generator heater voltage regulator 14 and from output of nanosecond pulse generator charging device 2. EFFECT: enhanced operating reliability of nanosecond pulse generator components. 1 cl, 1 dwg
