FIELD: geology, study of Earth's crust and lithosphere. SUBSTANCE: procedure includes measurement of magnetic field of the Earth and determination of geomagnetic coordinates of location of zones with increased fracturing and abyssal fractures. Regions characterized by absence of fractures are isolated according to procedure from collection of geological data on lithosphere, then horizontal component of magnetic field of the Earth is measured with the use of two magnetic variations stations positioned so on one geomagnetic latitude that first is in region with no fractures at all selected from collection and second is located in examined zone, obtained data are compared. Presence of anomalous magnitudes of value of horizontal component of magnetic field determines position of zone of enhanced fracturing or abyssal fracture, value of excess of magnitude of horizontal component obtained at second station is used to determine activity or inactivity of fractures. Comparison of values of horizontal component, one of which is obtained with the help of second station moved in zone of detection of fractures till values of horizontal component generated by means of two stations equate determines dimensions of zone of fractures.
