SUBSTANCE: method includes instrument detection of seismic waves; processing data while selecting information-bearing vibration spectra during processing; analysing the spectra and estimating the effective geometrical dimensions of the fracture zone based on the analysis; using seismic monitoring data of the fracture zone with sampling frequency of 100 Hz and processing the sampling data with frequency of 0.00833 Hz; constructing spectra of low-frequency microseismic vibrations and, based on analysis of a graph of spectral ratios, determining the effective length of the fracture zone from the curve of the frequency and period of the fundamental mode of resonance vibrations versus the length of the fracture. The width of the zone is determined from the frequency or period of the selected Stoneley wave.
