FIELD: medicine. SUBSTANCE: method involves applying ultrasonic color duplex scanning techniques to visualize the vertebral artery at the level of atlantoaxial articulation. Deformity index is calculated by determining ratio of vertebral artery length at the level of atlantoaxial articulation and distance between transverse processes of the first (atlas) and the second (axis) cervical vertebra. Deformity index growing to 1,72+/-0,10 and higher, vertebral artery deformity at the level of atlantoaxial articulation is to be diagnosed. EFFECT: high accuracy of diagnosis. 4 dwg, 1 tbl
