FIELD: inorganic chemistry, chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to preparing titanium dioxide by vapor- -phase hydrolysis of titanium halide. Method for preparing titanium dioxide involves preparing vapor-gas mixture, interaction of this mixture with titanium tetrachloride vapors, addition of additions as aluminum chloride and/or potassium chloride and silicon tetrachloride during the process of vapor-phase hydrolysis and separation of titanium dioxide from reaction products. Vapors of silicon tetrachloride are added in parallel with moving vapor-gas mixture and waste products after fractionating purification of titanium tetrachloride are used as addition of silicon tetrachloride. The content of silicon tetrachloride in waste products after fractionating purification of titanium tetrachloride is 30-60 wt.-%. Waste products are fed in the range 0.1-1.0% as measured for silicon dioxide in ready titanium dioxide. Before feeding into reactor waste products after fractionating purification of titanium tetrachloride are heated preliminary to vaporous state. Invention provides enhancing the output of process of vapor-phase hydrolysis, to reduce consumptions for obtaining raw-additions used in the hydrolysis process. Using titanium tetrachloride as waste products of fractionating purification as additions provides reducing exhausts of products to environment.
