FIELD: preparation of titanium dioxide by vapor phase oxidation of halides. SUBSTANCE: titanium tetrachloride is heated to 200-240 C. Natural gas is burned up in the air. Combustion products are added into water to from gas-vapor mixture. Gal-vapor mixture is admitted into reactor perpendicularly to stream of titanium tetrachloride vapors. Titanium tetrachloride to gas-vapor ratios is 1:(1-4). Additive is simultaneously added into reactor. Additive containing aluminum chloride in admixture with lower titanium chlorides or containing aluminum chloride solution in titaniumtetrachloride is directed at angle of 50-55 to motion of titanium tetrachloride vapors. Potassium chloride solution containing additive is fed perpendicularly to motion of gas-vapor mixture. EFFECT: titanium dioxide with improved pigmenting properties due to preparing spherical particles. 6 cl, 2 ex
