FIELD: measurement of radiation frequency of stars and frequency shifts caused by movement of receiver (object) along directions of viewed starts. SUBSTANCE: for realization of method coordinate system suitable for user is selected prior to start, three stars are chosen, their angular coordinates are measured, frequencies of selected spectral lines from radiation spectra of these stars are measured. After start frequency drifts are measured and their values are utilized to compute velocities of movement along directions of stars. These velocities and angular coordinates of stars are used to find coordinates of point of end of velocity vector of object as crossing point of three planes passing orthogonally to directions on stars through ends of velocity vectors along these directions. Found coordinates are employed to define value of modulus and direction of velocity vector in any coordinate system. Computation of modulus and directions of cosines of velocity vector for system of rectangular coordinates with beginning in point of start is carried out by given formulas.
