FIELD: application of coats by evaporation and condensation in vacuum; making wear-resistant coats on cutting tools. SUBSTANCE: cutting tool has multi-layer coat applied on base by ion- plasma method. Coat includes external main coat of titanium nitride and internal adhesion pre-coat containing titanium. External main coat contains additionally molybdenum; it is made from titanium nitride and molybdenum at the following relationship of components, mass-%: titanium, 87-93; molybdenum, 7-13. Internal adhesion pr-coat contains additionally molybdenum, iron (element of material of base), as well as nickel and chromium; it is made from titanium nitride, molybdenum, iron, nickel and chromium at thickness of 2-3 mcm and at the following relationship of components, mass-%: titnium,85.4-92.1; molybdenum, 7- 13; iron, 0.64-1.12; nickel, 0.11-0.21; chromium, 0.15-0.27. Located between tool base and adhesion pre-coat is additional pre-coat made from titanium, molybdenum, iron, nickel and chromium at thickness of 1.5 mcm and at the following relationship of components, mass-%: titanium, 85.4-92.1; molybdenum, 7-13; iron, 0.64-1.12; nickel, 0.11- 0.21; chromium, 0.15-0.27.
