FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: invention can be used for cleaning exhaust gases of internal combustion engine to protect environment and for simultaneously suppressing the noise. Proposed converter-muffler contains gas intake, intermediate and exhaust pipes with catalytic sections. Initial section of intermediate pipe is corrugated, inner surface of gas intake pipe and corrugated and following sections of intermediate pipe are provided with catalytic coating, catalytic sections are made in form of set of high-porosity elements with catalytic coating, high-porosity elements in each catalytic section provided with catalytic coating are fitted on with clearance on axle. Axles of catalytic sections in gas intake and exhaust pipes are flexible, and axle on corrugated and following sections of intermediate pipe is rigid. Flexible axles are secured in front and rear tubular crosses or cross tubes along axial line. Rear end of rigid axle is fixed in rear tubular cross tube. Front end of rigid axle made in form of solid of revolution is fitted in central hole of front tubular cross or cross tube. Front tubular crosses or cross tubes are fixed at beginning of gas intake and intermediate pipes and in exhaust pipe. Front and rear tubular crosses or cross tubes of catalytic sections located in corrugated and following sections of intermediate pipe are secured by detachable skeleton made of material featuring high linear thermal extension coefficient, and rigid axle is made of material with low linear thermal extension coefficient. Open ends of front tubular crosses or cross tubes of catalytic sections located in gas intake and intermediate pipes are furnished with air intake devices brought outside gas intake and intermediate pipes. Radial holes are made on side of tubular crosses or cross tubes reverse to direction of exhaust gas flow. High-porosity elements without catalytic coating used as noise silencers are installed at end of intermediate pipe and in exhaust pipe.
