FIELD: refractory materials. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to manufacture of refractory granulated materials for use as propping agent in oil and gas production by hydraulic formation breakage method. For manufacturing high-strength refractory spherical granules with density 2.6-2.9 g/cm3 and bulk density 1.58-1.68 g/cm3, (i) preliminarily ground and later fired in rotary furnace scrap of refractory mullite-silica articles with alumina content at least 50% and (ii) 33-67% of preliminarily fired bauxite with alumina content at least 60% are used in the form of finely ground product of their joint grinding, wherein alumina/silica weight ratio is at least 1. Preliminary firing of scrap proceeds at 1250-1350o and that of bauxite at 1100-1700o to achieve water absorption no higher than 5-35% depending on Al2O3 content. Joint grinding product is granulated, dried, screened, and fired in rotary furnace at 1500-1700o to produce fired granules, which are finally sorted.
