FIELD: production of metal magnesium from melts of magnesium, potassium and sodium chlorides. SUBSTANCE: the invention presents a method of desulfurization of melts of magnesium, potassium and sodium chlorides in production of a magnesium. The invention is pertinent to technologies of production of metal magnesium from melts of magnesium, potassium and sodium chlorides included in the magnesium electrolyte, that is processed by an electrolysis of melt of salts into a metal magnesium. The method may be used at the magnesium works using in the capacity of the raw materials enriched carnallite, magnesium chloride, magnesite, brucite or serpentinite. The method of desulfurization of melt of magnesium, potassium and sodium chlorides in production of magnesium provides for introduction in the melt of petrocoke and aggregate exposure of the melt at high temperatures. At that the petrocoke is introduced in the melt in the ratio to extrinsic sulfates contained in the melt of (0.6-1.5): 1. Desulfurization is carried out at temperatures of 750-790o, and aggregate exposure of melt in contact with petrocoke is realized for no less than 30 minutes. At that the melt is stirred with petrocoke by gating through the melt of a gas, in the capacity of which they use chlorine and-or hydrogen chloride or carbon oxide, or the air, or a noble gas such as argon or nitrogen, so decreasing duration of the production process and increasing a degree of desulfurization of the melt.
