FIELD: organic synthesis.

SUBSTANCE: invention provides a method for hemihydrogenation of dinitriles into aminonitriles, for instance adiponitrile into caprolactam, which method comprises hemihydrogenation of dinitriles of general formula NC-R-CN, where R represents linear or branched alkylene or alkenylene having 1 to 12 carbon atoms, preferably linear or branched C₂-C₆-alkylene, to give corresponding aminonitriles using hydrogen in presence of cc-system containing ruthenium, activating element, and a strong inorganic base. More specifically, ruthenium is deposited on acetylene black obtained by pyrolysis of paraffin oils.
