FIELD: diffusion butt welding of short thick- wall tubes of different type metals, possibly for making casings of step motors.
SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of making inclined chamfers in one or both ends of joined tubes while remaining annular collar on tube end; assembling tubes in centering device and mutually tightening them; mounting centering device with tubes in rotator of electron-beam plant; rotating it and fusing butt zone of tubes with electron beam; after fusion, heating butt zone with use of defocused electron beam for drawing tube ends together; interrupting heating and compression of tubes.
EFFECT: enhanced quality of step motor casings due to eliminating high-temperature creep of one of metals, improved accuracy of axial dimensions of welded rings and motor casing itself.
