SUBSTANCE: invention relates to method of diagnosing condition of vehicle steering gear by play. According to proposed method, steering wheel is turned to both sides through angle exceeding the play, with displacement of front wheel through equal check values and designed angular range of play is formed, and value of play is found by subtracting values of check displacement angular equivalents from value of range. Check displacement angular equivalents are determined at each cycle of play measurements. Corrections of measurement errors cause by plays of front wheel and steering wheel displacement sensors are introduced at each cycle of play checking.
EFFECT: improved accuracy of play checking, provision of stability of results of checking.
