METHOD OF AND DEVICE FOR CHECKING VEHICLE STEERING GEAR SUMMARY PLAY Russian patent published in 2005 - IPC

FIELD: transport engineering; vehicle steering gears.

SUBSTANCE: proposed method of checking summary play in vehicle steering gear comes to successively turning steering wheel from one to other side through angle exceeding possible play with subsequent recording of steering turning angle and displacement of steerable wheel by detectors and forming characteristics of play after which play is estimated by angle of turning of steering wheel after taking up play. Steering wheel turning angle detector is installed arbitrary on steering wheel rim in plane of its rotation, and displacement of steerable wheel is determined by displacement of point extreme from center of rim of steerable wheel in horizontal plane taking it as beginning of counting of steering wheel play, and end of counting is determined by two-fold displacement of said point in opposite direction. Summary play of steering gear is determined as difference of angle of turning of steering wheel from beginning of counting to first beginning of displacement of rim of steerable wheel with extraction of angle of turning of steering wheel from first to second beginning of displacement of rim of steerable wheel in the same direction. Steering wheel turning angle detector is fixed in three points in arbitrary place on steering wheel rim in plane of its rotation. Device for checking summary play in vehicle steering gear has steering wheel turning angle detectors and steerable wheel displacement detectors, and play calculator unit at output of which play indicator is installed, all being connected to supply unit. Play calculator unit includes series-connected analog-to-digital converter and microcontroller. Output of steering wheel turning angle detector made in form of gyroscope is connected to input of analog-to-digital converter whose output is connected to first input of microcontroller to first output of which play indicator is connected, and to second output, additional indicator-piezoradiator. Second input of microcontroller is connected to output of steerable wheel displacement detector, each element of circuit being connected to supply unit by common bus. Device is furnished with switch whose input is connected to third output of microcontroller, and outputs are connected to drivers of interface RS-232 and USB.

EFFECT: improved accuracy and reliability of results of checking.
