FIELD: separation.
SUBSTANCE: plate-type column (1) has drain well (3) for fluid (51) transport between the adjacent plates (2). The fluid is transported to the loaded plate in each drain well through a number of openings (32). Upon impinging on the loaded plate, the fluid flowing from outlet openings (32) as jets (60) occurs in the flow field diverging in individual parts. The flow has lateral components with respect to the longitudinal direction of the major flow. Deflectors (4) are arranged under the outlet openings at a distance from the loaded plate. They deflect the fluid flow momentum in accordance with the diverging flow field. The deflectors contribute to the formation of the lateral velocity components, so that the profile of the longitudinal velocity component is mainly invariable. The outlet openings are lesser in the central part than these in the adjacent sides.
