FIELD: automatics, possibly apparatuses for playing back compact-discs or digital video discs, for focusing scanning (recording) light or laser beam on record carrier or following tracks with recorded data.

SUBSTANCE: at one step of method according to invention operating gain is calculated as ratio of amplitudes of control variable (x) and difference control signal (xd) formed by feeding tuning signal (d) to control circuit. Then change of gain necessary for control circuit is calculated on base of measured value of gain. Value inverse to measured gain value is formed and used for calculating change of gain at automatic gain setting.

EFFECT: possibility for quick reliable gain setting and (or) tuning.
