FIELD: extracting agents of rare and noble metals, flotation agents in metallurgy or biologically active agents in agriculture. SUBSTANCE: described is method of preparing sulfoxides by oxidation of distillates of sulfurous petroleums with solutions of peroxide compounds in the presence of catalyst followed by isolation of desired products by well known methods. Oxidizing agent and catalyst include hydrorefined petroleum fraction with boiling temperature of 205-360 C oxidized to content of peroxide compounds of 2,2•10-2÷20,6•10-2 mole/l. EFFECT: explosionproof, more ecological and cheaper method, no use of deficient, expensive molybdenum catalyst now unregenerable under industrial conditions. 1 tbl
