FIELD: analyzing or investigating materials.
SUBSTANCE: method includes propagating ultrasonic waves over the outer side of the cross-section of a pipeline, measuring a time interval required for propagating along the study and reference segments of a pipeline, comparing the results obtained with the results of previous measurements, and predicting the service life of the pipeline. The device has four wave guides made of flat plates provided with sensors composed of prism and converter. The plates of wave guides are interconnected in pair. The ends of the plates are provided with holes. The distance between the center of each hole and the site of securing the waveguide to the pipe are the same. The working side of the prisms of the sensors are provided with pins whose axes are in coincidence with the perpendicular to the working side of the prism dropped from the center of the piezoplate.
