FIELD: fire fighting equipment and equipment for protection against explosion, particularly for grain storage and processing plants.

SUBSTANCE: method involves injecting inhibiting aerosol into protected space within time period between medium ignition and start of explosion development into medium, wherein velocity of inhibiting aerosol introduction exceeds velocity of flame propagation. Device for implementation of above method includes displaying ignition sensors and executive member, namely explosion suppressant. Explosion suppressant comprises body with combustion chamber, main and leading aerosol-generating charges, ignition system, outlet grid with sealing diaphragm and nozzle unit which discharges inhibiting aerosol into protected space with sonic or near-sonic speed.

EFFECT: increased operational speed, increased reliability and efficiency, possibility of fire inhibiting and explosion suppression in initial stage thereof, prevention of explosion spreading through service lines; reduced losses concerned with grain burning down, prevention of equipment damage.
