FIELD: nuclear engineering; development and manufacture of ionizing radiation sources.
SUBSTANCE: proposed radiation source that can be used for irradiating (sterilizing) flowing liquids and gases has sealed cobalt-60 holding case made built of coaxially mounted cylinders with clearances of 2.4 - 3.2 mm between them, which are joined at ends. Top part of case mounts perforated nozzle for passing materials being irradiated. Nozzle has head for conveying and suspending the source in irradiating device. Bottom part of case is provided with shank for locking source in irradiating device.
EFFECT: reduced self-absorption and enhanced operating efficiency of source due to its enlarged radiation surface.
