FIELD: nuclear engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to nuclear engineering, and more specifically to irradiation devices. An irradiation device for producing Co-60 isotope in a fast neutron nuclear reactor includes two moderating elements with a target made of irradiated material placed between them for isotope production. One of the moderating elements or each of them is a matrix of neutron moderating material with particles from the starting material homogeneously distributed in it. Metal hydrides based on zirconium (ZrHx, where x=1.8-2.0), yttrium (YHx, where x=1.8-2.0), titanium (TiHx, where x=1.8-2.0) and materials based on carbon (graphite), beryllium (Be, BeO, Be2C), boron-11 isotope (11B4C). The retarding element is obtained by pressing. A method for manufacturing a moderating element of an irradiation device consists in mixing the starting material for producing an isotope in the form of particles with a neutron moderating material in the form of a powder in a volume ratio of 1/20. The pre-compressed resulting mixture is placed in a mold, evacuated and annealed in a temperature range of 580-630°C. Then it is re-pressed to the predetermined density of the workpiece.
EFFECT: increase in the efficiency of radionuclide production is achieved.
