FIELD: electrical engineering.
SUBSTANCE: method designed to disconnect both high and low currents includes disconnection of contacts of at least one pair of parallel-connected poles and displacement of arcs in arc-control chamber under action of magnetic field set up by current through circuit being handled, as well as setting-up of additional magnetic field unidirectional with magnetic field built up by current through circuit being handled in one of poles and opposing it in other pole. Device implementing this method has at least one pair of series-connected poles each provided with normally closed contact, arc-control chamber, and coil carrying current of circuit being handled; in addition it has one or more coils or one or more permanent magnets for setting up additional magnetic field.
EFFECT: enhanced reliability of dc current disconnection by high-current nonpolarized contact apparatus.
