FIELD: processes for making ingots in ingot molds and casting molds.

SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of placing heat sink member on ingot mold before pouring metal into it; using heat removal member in the form of closed contour with inner space whose dimensions in lower base consist 1.05 - 0.9 of those of working space of ingot mold top portion and in upper base are no more than 0.99 of inner space of heat sink member in lower base; filling ingot mold and space restricted by heat removal member with metal; filling space restricted by heat removal member with metal in such a way that it consists 0.05 - 0.5 of volume of space filled with metal in ingot mold; cooling surface of head portion of ingot non-covered by walls of ingot mold by means of heat sink member; soaking metal until solidification and extracting ingot out of ingot mold. In the result of accelerated crystallization in top portion of ingot thick skin of crystallized metal is formed. It eliminates metal bursts through skin to ingot mold walls and scabs occurring.

EFFECT: enhanced quality of head portion of blank at further rolling of it, lowered quantity of head crop and cost price of ready products.
