FIELD: sorbents.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to mineral raw material technology and can be used for production of silica-based sorbent. Invention consists in that serpentinite is leached with mineral acids to recover magnesium salt solution, washed, dried, and subjected to magnetic separation. Distinguishing features of invention are that initial serpentinite particles are by 10-20% larger than particles of produced silica and that leaching is effected to residual magnesium content not higher than 30%. Thus obtained silica contains hydroxyl groups in amount required to form sorbents without need of additional hydroxylation operation. Physicochemical characteristics of this silica enables production of hydrophobic organophilic sorbent in the form of desired-size granules.
EFFECT: optimized process conditions enabling production of sorbent with desired characteristics.
