FIELD: mining industry and inorganic compounds technology.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to processing of mineral raw material, in particular kaolinite-type layered aluminosilicate, and can be used in chemical industry for production of at least sulfate and in nonferrous metallurgy for production of alumina. Method of processing layered aluminosilicates, selected from kaolinite group and possessing double-layer packet-type structure made up of silicon-oxygen tetrahedrals and octahedral layer, comprises mechanical activation of disintegrated raw material, sulfuric acid-mediated recovery of aluminum-containing component in the form of aluminum sulfate, and separation of aluminum sulfate solution from silicon-containing component. According to first option, mechanical activation is carried out in presence of sulfuric acid with density 1.820-1.839 g/cm3 taken in stoichiometric amount, recovery of aluminum sulfate is performed directly during activation, and transfer of aluminum sulfate from activation product into liquid phase is performed with water at temperature not higher than 30оС to achieve density not exceeding 1.25 g/cm3, while activation is carried out until aluminum-containing component is completely recovered. According to second option, mechanical activation of raw material is effected in presence of sulfuric acid with density 1.820-1.839 g/cm3 taken in amount inferior to stoichiometric value. In this case, transfer of aluminum sulfate is performed with water at 30оС containing the rest of stoichiometric amount of acid to achieve density of liquid phase not higher than 1.25 g/cm3.

EFFECT: enabled recovery of aluminum-containing component from starting material at a level of 80-97% and avoided need of additional heating in aluminum sulfate recovery stage.
