FIELD: railway transport; permanent way maintenance and repair machinery.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to machine designed for compacting of ballast. Proposed tie tamper contains rod with journal for fastening located in upper part of tie tamper, and blade with inserts made of hard wear-resistant material located in lower part of tie tamper with front and rear walls with inserts, upper and lower edges and sides. Inserts of front and rear walls of blade lower edge are arranged at angle relative to each other. Inserts of front and rear walls of sides and upper edge or only of sides of blade are arranged at angle relative to each other. Front wall of blade with inserts is arranged at angle to axis of journal.

EFFECT: increased efficiency and service life of tie tamper.
