FIELD: high-voltage and heavy-current pulse engineering.
SUBSTANCE: proposed rail discharge switch that may be found useful for switching low-inductance energy storage capacitors rated at different electrical and physical loads and for protecting heavy-current electric circuits has sealed insulating chamber with elliptical outer surface and glass-reinforced resin bandage placed on its outer surface; parallel half-cylinder shaped main electrodes mounted in central through bore of chamber along its symmetry axis; control electrode installed in blind bore of chamber unidirectionally offset toward central bore in symmetry plane along greater axis of ellipse, this control electrode being made in the form of relatively insulated plate-shaped sections pointed on one end and jointed on other end to cylindrical bars provided with square or semi-circular slots on pointed end spaced apart through distance equal to double width of slot, distance between generating edges being equal to gap between control electrode and main ones; each section is connected by means of packed through stud to electric triggering circuit set up of electrode voltage divider, isolating capacitor or uncontrolled spark gap, matching-deforming resistor, and coaxial cable; it also has magnetic damper mounted in through bore of insulating chamber on end opposite relative to control electrodes; external electrodes made in the form of plates with semi-elliptical recesses enclosing insulating chamber on two ends, film insulation being inserted between external electrodes and insulating chamber; flexible current contacts interconnecting external and main electrodes; viewing port and film safety valve installed on butt-end bores of insulating chamber.
EFFECT: improved design, enhanced mechanical and electric endurance, ability of controllable multichannel discharge.
