FIELD: processes and equipment for mechanized and manual gas-shield DC-welding of aluminum and its alloys by means of inverse polarity direct current.
SUBSTANCE: electrode includes electrically conducting body supporting copper sleeve secured to it. Bottom of sleeve is preliminarily worked by percussion method or by pressure action at effort 50 - 60 kgf/cm2 in order to create inner swelling for crumbling and compressing fibers of blank. Such mechanical working prevents leakage that may occur as result of "thermal swinging" of bottom of electrode sleeve. Water-cooled tube is arranged in cavity of sleeve. There is gap between water-cooled tube and sleeve bottom for passing cooling liquid. Geometry and size of sleeve are selected while taking into account welding current according to predetermined relations.
EFFECT: enhanced quality of welded seams due to stable burning of electric arc, especially at small values of electric current, increased useful life period of electrode.
