FIELD: electrical engineering.
SUBSTANCE: method can be used at power stations and other electrical plants. Potential big and small power commutation service lives of switches within low and high current range are calculated correspondingly on the base of experimental tests of commutation service life at rated current. Potential big power commutation service life within low current range is assumed to be constant. Experimental determination of commutation service life within low current range is excluded and potential low power commutation service life depending on value of current is calculated within high current range. Number of "switch on" and "switch off" cycles made by switch within all the current ranges is taken into account. Total used low and high commutation service lives and total used power commutation service life are calculated correspondingly. Remained low and high power commutation service life are calculated, remained high power commutation service life is assumed to be constant within low current range. Remained low power commutation service life is determined depending on value of current. Potential and remained commutation service lives are calculated for any currents.
EFFECT: reduced labor input for determining service life of switches; widened operational capabilities; reduced costs.
