FIELD: metallurgy, possibly heating of continuously cast slabs of low alloy steel for further rolling of them.
SUBSTANCE: method for sputtering aluminum gasothermic coating onto rectangular steel slabs to be heated for rolling comprises steps of sputtering coating onto upper wide face by thickness determined according to relation: 0.3 ≤(Huc - 0.1)/ √ 10 -3 H s ≤ 0.4 where H uc -thickness of coating applied onto upper wide face of slab, mm; H s - thickness of slab, mm. Coating applied onto lower wide face of slab has thickness determined according to relation: 0.6 ≤ √ Hs /R x H lc /H uc ≤ 0.8 where H lc - thickness of coating applied onto lower wide face of slab, mm; R - radius of rollers of transporting roller table, mm.
EFFECT: lowered thickness of defect layer on wide faces of slab, especially on its lower face due to selection of optimal values of thickness of gasothermic sputtering on slab.
