FIELD: coast of metal materials; protection of surfaces of titanium alloy slabs from saturation with gas during heating for hot deformation. SUBSTANCE: method includes gas thermal spraying of aluminum coat on slab surface before heating it for hot deformation; in spraying coat of one layer of 0.1 to 0.3 mm thick at through porosity of 6 to 8% is formed; after spraying, this layer is additionally treated with impregnating mixture filled with finely-dispersed powder filler and dried at temperature of 70 C for 24 hours. Aluminum powder or aluminium oxide powder or their mixture is used as impregnating mixture in ratio of 1:1 to 1.5.
