FIELD: ice breaking facilities.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to ice breaking facilities installed on piers of bridges across rivers and designed for preventing formation of ice jams before bridges in periods of freeze-up and drift ice. Proposed device is ice-breaking construction installed on bridge pier upstream and consisting of wedge-like body with cavities at both sides to accommodate cylindrical drums with vertical axle of rotation freely rotating under action of ice carried by river flow. Ice cutting horizontal tenons are made on surface of drums. Drums are fitted flush in cavities to provide projection of tenons beyond the limits of wedge-like body, with drum remaining inside cavity. Tenons are installed at a distance from each other, both in vertical and horizontal directions to provide simultaneous contact of several tenons with ice approaching the pair.
EFFECT: improved efficiency of ice breaking.
